Pool Day

We were at the pool most the afternoon today....again. The water just feels so good! It is hilarious to watch the boys in the water. Tomorrow we're going to church and then getting together with some friends later in the day. I'm still house sitting for my parents.

Tonight we're cooking dinner and having smores with the boys. We're going to just spend the rest the night remembering and thinking of my husband's dad. Most know that he passed away about 4 years ago. I don't talk about it on this blog, so I won't say much else. Just that we're grateful for the time we had him and I know he would be so proud of my husband and our boys.

Summer Glow

We ended up trying out the pool last night and the water felt really nice. We were there for about 2 hours.

On a different subject, yesterday I ran out of lotion. Now, I like lotion after my shower and I really don't like dry skin. I also don't like running out to the store to just buy one thing, so I rummaged through the cosmetic cabinet to see what could substitute for my desperate need of moisture. I found two things: a bottle of glitter lotion I received from a white elephant gift from Christmas, and a bottle of bronzing daily lotion by Jergens that came as a sample with my regular lotion. I didn't really want to spend the rest of the day shimmering with glitter skin like when I was 13 and thought it was cool, so out of last resort I decided to go with the bronzing lotion.

The bottle said it wasn't a self-tanning cream but a "daily moisturizing lotion that adds a summer glow to your skin". Well, why not try it since I really need moisturized and I wouldn't mind a summer glow. So I tried it. Ahhh....no more dry skin. And believe it or not, a few hours later when I was getting ready to leave for the pool, I looked in the mirror and my face and arms really did have a hint of summer. Not dark or really tan, just glowish, like I had been outside in the sun for an hour or something. I tried it again this morning (since I never made it to the store for real lotion) and again with the glow.

Boy, am I glad I picked the bronzing bottle instead of the glitter bottle:)

On a different note, we've been house sitting for my parents this week. We'll be staying over at their place a couple nights over the next few days to entertain their cats and take care of the lawn. They get back next week. We're headed to the pool again later this afternoon after my husband gets home from work. I have a feeling we will be there a lot this weekend seeing as it was so nice last night when we went.

Warm enough?

Is it warm enough for the pool? You never really know until you get in the water, but we're going to try it out anyway today. If the water is too cold, we'll just sit in the sun and eat snacks from the food court:)

Is it just me or is going to the pool kinda weird when your pregnant? I mean, I have done it before but that was a couple years ago when I was 6 months along and I had a maternity coverup thing. This time it's kinda weird feeling. I'm not big enough to wear the maternity coverup thingy, so I'm left wearing my regular swimsuit. At the sake of not wanting to wear a normal suit while 3 months pregnant (due to that sort of bump on my stomach that depending on the day can make me look like I'm expecting or that I just ate too much at lunch), I'm not sure what I'm doing. Does any other mother know what I'm talking about? That time in your pregnancy where it is obvious to you that your expecting, but your clothes still all fit and people don't want to ask because you might just have put on 2 pounds and not be expecting. Well, I'm at that point.....

So, after some thought. I decided to put on my normal suit but since it is a 2-piece, I'll spare the world the embarrassment of wanting to ask but not knowing if they should, I'll wear my non-pregnancy black cover-up.

I may be the only person that will spend these 5 minutes pondering over what to wear to the pool, but trust me, it will save me a lot of annoying questions while I'm there. (note: we live in a very small town so you can't go to the pool without running into at least 10 people you know)

Sorting Clothes

It is cloudy and chilly outside today. I had looked forward to taking the boys to the pool that opened Monday but it is very chilly. It was so nice and warm last weekend.

Which means we're home today. Which means I'm tackling the dreadful clothes pile. Last weekend I rummaged through my closet to find a shirt I wanted to wear. In the process the closet bins and storage containers spilled out into the floor creating a massive pile of destruction. I currently have storage boxes labeled "summer clothes", "maternity summer clothes", "winter non-maternity", and so on.....

However, it is definitely become a nightmare. Too many bins and too many storage boxes. So this afternoon is sorting day into 3 piles that will go into the bins:

1) Can wear now
2) Will wear later (after having baby)
3) Won't ever wear again/why did I buy that/why is this still in my closet

Wish me luck! Now go and tackle whatever "pile of destruction" is currently taking over your house. Or if you don't have one, then come help me with mine!

Best Friends

(Ever since we bought our new camera, I feel like someone is always taking a picture. I got tired of smiling normal that day....)

This picture was by total accident, my oldest was turning around with the hose and it sprayed my youngest in the face while I was taking a picture of them.

On Saturday we took the boys to Famous Daves for lunch, so good! I had the sweetwater catfish, ymmmm. We then did a little shopping and headed home. Saturday evening we dropped the boys off at my parent's house. They watched the boys and my niece for the night while we went to the movies with my brother/sister-in-law...well, we went to the same movie theater but wanted to see different movies. We saw Star Trek. I didn't know anything about the other movies/show but it was good. We picked up the boys late and went to bed.

Sunday was church in the morning. I signed up on Sunday to help with VBS at our church this summer and we had a short meeting already. I'm excited to help out and it should be fun. We went out for lunch with my family and then spent most of Sunday afternoon/evening around the house and outside.

We had a family barbecue on Monday. Before my niece came over, we did water games with the boys in the morning, then had the barbecue in the afternoon. We spent the rest of the afternoon/evening outside, then ate some leftover barbecue for dinner and fresh strawberries. My oldest stayed at my parent's house while we took my youngest home for bed at 8:30 or so. We had a nice weekend, and we have lots of pictures!

I know most people know by now, but here is my first pregnancy picture of our 3rd baby. I'm due in December, right during our Christmas break! Actually, a couple days after Finals week at the college, which is totally God's timing. God is good.

Cherry Hill and a Chalkboard

I don't think I've ever talked about the trail across the street from our home. Well, to be honest, we didn't use it very much last summer when we moved to our new place because our youngest was still in the stroller and being a mulched trail, strollers don't ride well on it.

But every since warm spring came and especially now that summer is officially knocking on our door, we walk on it almost every night. It's our little trail away from everything, called Cherry Hill Trail. The boys love taking a moment in the trees and I love just smelling the grass and blossoming wildflowers. My youngest rides in the hiking backpack on my husband's back and my oldest walks breezily by us. All we have to do is cross the street from our home and enter this small forest path.

Remember when I mentioned the big present my husband bought my oldest son at a garage sale a week or so ago, well here it is. It is a really big chalkboard for him to color and play with. It is about 4 feet high and 8 feet long. We attached it to the wall of my son's room. He loves to color with chalk and write his alphabet letters on it. It is perfect for those rainy days or when it is just super hot outside and you're either at the pool or inside because it is so hot. He loves it. It was $5 at a local garage sale.

Birthday Party and Our Garden

My sister-in-law turned 30 this week, so we had a little party for her yesterday. The original plan was to have a barbecue but seeing as my parents were busy all day at Roundup (a week long camp for older people at the college), we all decided to go out. We met at my parent's house around 3:00 for the kids to play and to gifts. We all then went down to the restaurant at dinner time and had a good time. (my husband took these photos so they are all pretty candid...and he isn't in any of them:)

Last night was our 1st Wed night this summer teaching the 2 and 3 year old class at church. It went well and the kids are pretty funny. One girl said she had pink eye....which why she was in church class I'll never understand, but we sanitized her hands a lot:) We had 9 kids and about 14 potty breaks which went well. Only some of the kids knew the church songs, but it was fun to try and teach them all songs we grew up knowing. Our oldest son is in that class. He was fun to watch in the class with his friends and "buddies". We teach it till August, so it should be fun to see them all every week.

We'll be outside for awhile today and my husband is getting a haircut from a friend later (wow, does he need a haircut!). I'll post tomorrow about our nightly walks and the "huge" present my husband bought at a garage sale for my oldest son. Saturday I'll try and post some pictures of our garden. We are making a garden in my parent's backyard (thank-you to our friend who has a tiller). My parents have a pretty big backyard and said they don't mind us using a part of it for our garden so we can have all the tomatoes we want. I love tomatoes. It should all be done by saturday, so that is exciting. Don't you love summer!!!

More than you want to know

Wow, May 19th! That is today! I don't even know what to say to update about. So, I'll just do a timeline which is the easiest way to explain our life the last few weeks (or at least the main parts of our life).

End of April: School Banquet, me wrapping up teaching classes, my husband busy at work with residence life stuff (he had to help hire two new residence life people that start this summer), he also finished his first two grad classes in his new program, we took the boys to the zoo, my husband and I go see a movie for the first time in awhile (we are very picky with our movies)

1st Week of May: Finals week at the college, my husband busy with students moving out for the summer, me busy with grading and submitting final grades, end of the year get togethers/ice cream party, last small group of the year (we love our small group!), my oldest fully on adult cups all the time, Graduation at the college!!!, followed by graduation parties with our friends (especially our friend Nicole who had the best barbecue ever), we sign up to teach the 2 year old class on Wed nights over the summer

2nd Week of May: Students completely move out and leave for the summer, I start teaching a 3 week online summer school class, we re-do the bedrooms for the boys (they now have their own rooms instead of a separate playroom and sleeping room), I get my books for my grad classes this summer, the boys have a playdate with their cousin on thursday, I go to a few garage sales and get some good deals for clothes for my oldest and my husband buys a huge present at a garage sale for $5 for my oldest son that I'll post about later, we plan a bonfire...more like a campfire, we set up our outdoor chairs for at night when we sit outside for hours watching the boys play (we've done that several times already and it is just wonderful, Summer is here!), I go summer clothes shopping

3rd Week of May (this week): Roundup is this week (a week long camp on campus for older people, I think age 55 and up) We love Roundup!! The campers are so fun and positive and just love their life. My husband attends a reception for roundup and my dad teaches classes all during the week for it. The guests all stay in our building and we love them!
It was super hot here yesterday and we spend a lot of time outside during the morning and at night. Afternoons are the same as they have been for the past almost year, the boys both sleep from about 12:30/1:00 to 3:30/4:00. I'm teaching an online class this month. My husband is taking summer classes for his grad program. I can't remember when Mother's day was...but we went to Red Lobster and my husband gave me some wildflowers.

Today: My oldest is currently having his morning snack (applesauce) and my youngest is taking his morning nap (he sleeps around 10:00 a.m. for about 1/2 an hour...he is a sleeper:). I woke up early and did my prep/grading for the class I'm teaching, so I'm excited to take a nap with the boys this afternoon. I'll take the boys outside after their nap. My oldest just got his first playmobile set, so instead of playing outside this morning, he wanted to play in his room with his playmobile. So, I opened all the windows and played with my youngest. My husband will come home for lunch about 11:30 and we'll have leftover casserole. (This post is titled "More than you want to know" for a reason:) We'll go to some Roundup activities tonight. We start teaching the 2-year old class at church tomorrow night. Tomorrow afternoon we'll have a barbecue at my parents for my sister-in-law's birthday. We wanted to go camping last Friday but it rained during the day so we postponed, so we're going to look into doing it this Friday. I have a million pictures to post so I'll try to do that very soon:)

I'm excited for memorial day weekend this weekend with more barbecues and campfires. I can't wait for the pool to open, I think we'll spend everyday there. I also can't wait till CAMP! I love the summertime, if you didn't know. I love that we've had mouth-watering strawberries for snacks for the last 3 days. I love that we made smores saturday night with the boys. I love that my oldest picks fruit to eat instead of sugary snacks. I love that we get to take long walks at night in this amazing weather. I love that I can throw on some shorts or a skirt and walk around outside with the boys. I love that the tv is rarely on. I love that my husband and I sit and read after the boys go to bed. I love that I haven't checked facebook in days and don't really care if I do. I love that this season brings out the best in me. Now, if only I could bottle it up somehow and continue this life during the winter:)
